In the last 3 months, we have seen a 33% increase in the number of individuals and families attending the Community Pantry. This growth has been seen through referrals from other service providers and the recess of the Drysdale Family Support program.
Each week we are providing food support for an average of 40 households, with new people presenting on an almost weekly basis.
In total, GSCI is connected to over 140 different households with 259 unique individuals receiving support in the last quarter.
Breakdown of Food Distribution;
- An estimated four tonnes of fresh fruit and vegetables was provided through our partnership with Geelong FoodShare.
- 715kg of goods were received in partnership with Coles through supermarket donation boxes.
- An additional $5,000+ of food was purchased directly by GSCI for distribution.

Gateway Stronger Communities Initiative were the recipients of a grant from the Anthony Costa Foundation’s August 2024 Small Grant Round. This grant was for funding operations, staffing and the development of a Community Pantry and Social Connections Space. This space was officially opened in March 2025.
As we come to towards the end of this grant period, we would like to take the opportunity to acknowledge and express our appreciation to the Anthony Costa Foundation. Their support made it possible for us to move into our new Community Pantry and Social Connections Space, and has been invaluable in managing the growth we have experienced. A huge heartfelt thank you to the Anthony Costa Foundation.
As we look to the future, we are working towards building capacity, diversity and sustainability within the Community Pantry operations through;
- Increased volunteer engagement
- Volunteer training opportunities
- Expanding our referral network
- Seeking additional fundraising and partnership opportunities
